Disco Deviant Friday 2nd July The Globe, Brighton w/ Danny Webb

DISCO <<<<< DEVIANT <<<<< MONTHLY <<<<< @ THE GLOBE

Disco Deviant go back to their roots with Pablo & Danny doing the business this time out.

The basement sessions at the Globe have been going really well, last month Lovedisco gave it his all - we all loved it.

This should be another belter with summer upon us and plenty of great releases this past few weeks I know I'm in the mood for a nice hazy basement session Disco Deviant syle.

As ever we'll install some extra sound to give it a bit of thump.

Danny Webb & Pablo Contraband promise to play all their best records for you too!

FRIDAY NIGHT - 10-3- FREE - DISCO< BOOGIE< FUNK< EDITS< CLASSICS

Monday 21 June 2010

Greg Wilson, July 30th, Brighton

After such a successful party at The Loft in February it was definitely time to find a larger space, in keeping with our vibe and put on a bigger show in Brighton. Disco Deviant will move to the King and Queen for this special event.

The Line up is bigger and we have arranged for some stunning sound and light installations.

Greg Wilson will be joined by Cosmic Boogie, a fellow Merseyside resident and champion of the boogie sound. It's an exciting addition and should bring another facet to the night. Disco Deviant's very own Pablo Contraband will make up the trio of DJs.

All this on a lovely sound system with an incredible light show booked, to totally transform the venue into a 70's disco basement.

This one really does promise to be quite a special night.

Last time was a total sell out so make sure you grab a ticket - we are offering limited early birds at £7.50 each exclusively on RA.

Free d/l - Melba Moore - Loves comin at ya (OOFT Rework)

Get over to soundcloud and grab it whilst it's hot - wont stay downloadable for long. Nice little rework from the OOFT camp. You do well to check their blog out if you don't know it. One of my faves. Home to The Revenge, Ali OOFT and often some of the finest edits and tracks around. It was one of the first I subscribed too, before The Revenge blew up. Still cuts it over there, just have to buy more of their many releases nowadays, which is fair enough.

NickV - Paris - DJ Mix

NICKV is a product of Mancunia, packaged in the suburbs of Paris and currently one of the hottest djs on the Paris scene.

His reputation has grown with the success of the clubs he helped to establish in 2003 when Nick’s across the genre flavoured dj sets led him to hold down major residencies : GUYS & DOLLS, OTRA OTRA, CLUB DISCO and BALLROOM – some of Paris’s best underground nights where he played monthly to the more discerning ears of open minded and mixed people – gay, straight or both – alongside the likes of Laurent Garnier, Dimitri from Paris, Needs, The Unabombers, At Jazz, Ivan Smagghe, i:cube, Dj Deep, Âme, Greg Wilson, Gilb’r, Erik Rug, Grand Wizard Theodore, Maurice Fulton, Metro Area, Chris Goss (Hospital), ?uestLove …

Nick’s Mancunian origins combined to a Paris based b-boy and funk background have provided him with a rare blend of music tastes, on which he draws to build his unique sets. His DJ sets rip up any dancefloor and combine music from all genres and periods of music : digging deep into the old school from hiphop to disco and electro funk, through to the sounds of the future drum & bass, deep house, broken beats, techno soul and far beyond. His dynamic yet smooth mixing skills honed over the years have established Nick as one of the hottest djs in the French capital.

Right now you can catch him every third Saturday of the month in Paris at LA JAVA where he is resident for the very confidential MONA nights. A must if you are in Paris.

We're hoping to lure him in our direction for a Disco Deviant party some time soon. In the meantime....

Cosmic Boogie's Disco Grinch EP

A new digital EP from me hit the download shops today (well – Juno at least). I will let the official speil do the talking for me, as usual…

Straight outta Bedmo – that’s Bedminster for non Bristol folk – comes a brand new digital-only label… Bedmo Disco Records!

Named after the website, club night and production outfit of the same name, Bedmo Disco Records launches this June with a very special E.P from rising star and friend of the family, Cosmic Boogie.

The Liverpudlian producer and DJ has been enjoying a stratospheric rise of late thanks to a series of much-heralded releases on Disco Deviance and, of course, his own Cosmic Boogie imprint.

Now he’s kick-starting a busy summer of gigs and festival appearances with a killer set of edits for Bedmo Disco.

‘The Disco Grinch’ is Cosmic Boogie’s first digital release, and it’s a belter. It features four wildly different slabs of dancefloor-friendly disco and electrofunk, all with Cosmic Boogie’s trademark eye for detail and ear for a killer groove.

The E.P kicks off with ‘Catch 22’, a sensual slow-jam that’s perfect for those ‘eyes wide shut’ moments. It’s sexy, scintillating and, frankly, a little bit naughty. If it doesn’t make you go a bit wobbly down below, we’ll eat our flat caps.

Next up is ‘Must Come Down’, a chunky groover that teases out a lesser-known disco gem for nine action-packed minutes. Think sizzling synth-bass, cut glass strings, heavy percussion and just the right amount of vocal. As we’d say in Bristol, proper job.

Bursting out of its third-place billing is ‘Calling Lenny’, an endorphin-releasing beast of shirts- off disco set to fire-up festivals across the globe this summer. With its dizzying disco horns, floor-slaying vocal and thumping groove, ‘Calling Lenny’ is sure to cause a commotion on any disco-minded dancefloor.

Rounding off the E.P is the digital bonus ‘Let’s Jam’. Only available for those who buy the whole release, it’s an intergalactic P-funk jam with more wonky percussion than your average crusty drum circle.

The goodness doesn’t stop there though. In addition, Bedmo Disco Records will be making another Cosmic Boogie edit available free-of-charge to lucky disco diggers. The frankly rather enormous and funksome ‘Talk To Me’ will be made available as a free download (see the link below)

Bedmo Disco – breakin’ out the happy music!

So there you go.

You can buy from Juno Download: HERE

Friday's Funky Five Floor Fillers

These are Five New Funky Floor Fillers that have been smashing it up whenever I play them. Dance floor destruction guaranteed.

1. Silver Convention - Get Up (InnerWestSoul Up And Away Edit)

Piano and string stomper by the saucy ladies in silver, with added tin foil and milk bottle tops. Re-Edit done by my old DJ partner from my days at Liverpool Uni 91-94.

Silver Convention - Get Up (InnerWestSoul Up And Away Edit) by InnerWestSoul

2. William DeVaughn - Be Thankful (Onur Engin Edit)

Simply incredible edit of the disco version of this classic with huge dancefloor appeal. It's a bit faster than the original & draws out the intro & bassline just long enough so that when the vocals drop you're beaming from ear to ear. Been after this for months & it's finally available on vinyl. Get it while you can.

William DeVaughn - Be Thankful for What You've Got (Onur Engin Edit) by Onur Engin

3. Stupid Human - Ah You're Welcome

Part two of the excellent Stupid Human series continues the hobo disco frolics with two killer reworks and some straight up edit action that really gets under your skin. http://www.stupid-human.co.uk

Stupid Human SH002 by Stupid Human

4. Marvin Gaye - Heard It Through The Grapevine (Funk Ferret Edit)

A simple but devastatingly effective edit of Marvin Gaye's amazing disco funk version of 'I heard it through the grapevine'. Floor filler guaranteed.

Heard It Through The Grapevine - Funk Ferret Edit by FunkFerret

5. Chic - I Want Your Love (Holic Aftermash)

Last, but certainly not least is a very tasty mashup of the Todd Terje/Moodymann remix of Chic's timeless classic with elements of Eric Prydz over the top to dirty it up a bit. Somehow it just works. And I mean REALLY Works...

Couple of nights out June 11th & 18th Brighton + 3 edits courtesy of DD

This smooth love song from Donald Byrd - edit by Cosmic Boogie
Feel Like Loving You Today by Cosmic Boogie

Feels so good - Gwen McCrae (Blacklodge cool down mix)

Gwen McCrae - "Feel So Good" (BlackLodge Cool Down Mix) by BlackLodge

Nice loopy rework of a Gwen McCrae track by Black Lodge. Handy little addition to anyone's hard drive, and my suspicion is it's gonna work on the dancefloor. Limited to 100 D/L's so be a quick clicker.

If you missed out you can buy for 41 along with some other nice edits at BANDCAMP

Blacklodge (Rob Fahey) is a neighbour of mine and has been beavering away on the circuit for a few years, DJing in bars around Brighton and getting to grips with his home studio. It seems his devotion has been rewarded with a flurry of releases on vinyl scheduled over the spring/summer. Some decent labels namely Traveller, Under the shade and Lazy Days have snapped up a few of his tracks and have commissioned remixes from Toby Tobias, Down Town Party network and Love Birds.

The Alphabet City Ep will be available from Phonica & Juno in the next few days.

I expect to hear a lot more of Blacklodge over the next few months. Enjoy

Nicholas - Crying - Superb 4 track EP

Just stumbled across this beauty on soundcloud, absolutely perfect release. Only problem is I can't get a copy its out of stock at Juno and appears to be a vinyl only release!! Let me know if you find copies elsewhere.

This track uses Jocelyn Brown's vocal to great effect, on a lovely downtempo houser. The other 3 tracks are also killers. Enjoy and good luck getting a copy.
