Message Of Love ( feat. Freddie Mercury) by Leo Zero

Message Of Love ( feat. Freddie Mercury)  by  Leo Zero Brilliant production brings Freddie back to life courtesy of Leo Zero. Available gratis from his soundcloud account. He's getting more of a profile with a string of remixes including Florence & the Machine, Robbie Williams, Paul Weller, Metronomy, Bat for Lashes & Jack Penate.

Along with a heap of his own releases and edits, we're hoping to get him to Brighton soon, his mini mix was played on Annie Mac's show this week, also available on soundcloud.

Big up Leo Zero.

Friday's Funky Five

Thanks to Pablo for inviting me to join the Disco Deviant crew.

I'm gonna kick things off with a selection of excellent Re-Edits of classic Disco, Funk & Soul.

First up we have Touchsoul's edit of Alicia Myers – You Get The Best From Me, originally released on MCA in 1984. Alicia Myers - You Get The Best From Me (Touchsoul Edit) by touchsoul

The eternally popular Marvin Gaye's Funky Space Re-Incarnation from 1978 has been given a punchy dancefloor edit by Liverpools Andy Ash. Funky Space Reincarnation by Andy Ash

One of my favourite DJ/Producers Todd Terje works his magic on a epic 1977 Demis Roussos track, I Dig You, from his album Magic. I Dig You (Todd Terje Housemix) - Demis Roussos by AOR DISCO

Taking things a in a more relazed direction Onur Engin has knocked out another first class edit of Esther Phillips' 1972 hit, Home Is Where The Hatred which was written by the legendary Gil Scott Heron. Esther Phillips - Home Is Where The Hatred Is (Edit) by Onur Engin

Last, but certainly not least, we have Leftside Wobble with an unashamed disco screamer of an edit of Change's Pocket Angel (featuring a massive Jocelyn Brown chorus). Pocket Angel (Stripped Edit) by Leftside Wobble

Leftside Wobble will be playing with Pablo at the Disco Deviant night Above Audio, Friday 26th March. Unmissable.

And for my first post....

Big thanks to Pablo Contraband for inviting me to contribute to the ever popular Disco Deviant blog - I'll mostly be introducing a selection of new and old music which you may know & love or may have long forgotten in a dance floor daze....

Setting the mood and mellow pace, first up for the Deviant treatment is "Fly Away / Walking In Sunshine" released by Laid Back in the summer of 1984.

Laid Back were Tim Stahl & John Guldberg who hail from Denmark - which explains the occasional Euro-land lyric.

The track first appeared on Germany's Metronome Records as a B side - the flip was the underground favourite, "White Horse", an electro-funk track of epic proportions which - at the insistence of Prince - was included on the B side of the original 12" pressing of "When Doves Cry"....good on you, little purple man.

This balearic gem won't be a stranger to some of you - being an end of night tune favoured by a certain DJ Harvey - "Fly Away.." clocks in at just under 8 1/2 minutes and through it's hypnotic, gently modulating main riff, softly sung vocals, ba-ba-ba-ba chorus and steel drums, the track always evokes warm, sunny vibes......aaah, sunshine......enjoy!

Rich Dugdale - Falling - 11/02/10

Fab Bits n Pieces

A few treats for you on Valentines Day - all great tunes 2 from the brilliant Popular Peoples Front - a collaboration between Chris Duckenfield and Loe Elstob (aka Leo Zero) - both very nice bits. I particularly like the vocal loop on I Love Only You.

PPF - I Love Only You

PPF - Bits n Pieces

This is excellent - Sounds Superb have consistently released these great pieces, something to do with In Flagranti, brilliant cover art, essential label. House of Funk has a massive wobbly bassline and some vocal stabs. Sits nicely in a disco or house set and certainly moves the floor. Give it a go.

Hrwo E in the mix

hrwo E - Looped Up Slow Mo'  by  hrwo E

Hrwo E, posted a nice mix on soundcloud and asked if we would like it here at Disco Deviant, I took a listen and didn't hesitate to share it with you guys, here's a few words from Hrwo E (Croatia.)

'This new promo mix was made few days ago especially for the radio show on Croatian Blue Radio
in which I was a guest, the songs used in the mix are both new and old productions and some unreleased stuff, I think it's a  rather good show case of disco genres from the past till today.
The idea was to showcase the mix which describes me the best (at the moment), so because of my usual affection for disco sound, I decided to put together a mix which would promote that sound a little bit more.

I hope you enjoy it.'

Some weekend party action S&E London from Andy Blake, Ali Renault, Alex Patterson & Co.

just a quick one to say we've got world unknown coming up on friday february 12th. this time we're back at our brixton hq with dr alex patterson from the orb playing a special world unknown themed dj set.

here's a link to volumes 2 and 3 of the world unknown mixes, both by my esteemed partner in crime and friend of mr bodyhammer, joe hart.

there are also some more mixes from joe and i on the page. enjoy them and feel free to pass them around. we're also adding various interesting links and info the site all the time so keep checking worldunknown.co.uk for new things.

one current highlight on our links page is a great audio interview with ron murphy from nsc who mastered pretty much all the detroit techno releases. it's nowhere near as spoddy as you may imagine and gives a great insight into the experimental approach to music that was afoot in the windy city during the 80s and 90s.

gold blood are also gearing up for a big year with their debut 6 track ep due imminently on ali renault's human shield imprint. they also have a live gig at the macbeth on february 12th. choices choices. do you come to brixton for world unknown or go the the ditch for t'blood? why not do both? cabs are quick and easy and the more adventurous among you could even get the 35 bus as it's virtually a door to door service.

here's a free gold blood download for you to help you make up your mind.

right, thats that then.

see you soon somewhere or other.

cheers,

andy
