The ever vigilant and organised muso Mr Tim Sweeney offers parts 1&2 of his picks for 2012. His commitment to the show and the music is admirable and I for one applaud his passion and ongoing devotion to unearthing and broadcasting underground music that he feels everyone should hear.

A soulful mix from 78 Edits lovingly put together exclusively for us at discodeviant.com. The mix showcases Jamie's ear for a funk fueled groove and features some great piano riffs and vocals throughout. Most enjoyable and something quite Levan-like running through this selection. 78 Edits releases have been a regular purchase for us and his soundcloud is well worth checking out for a proper taster of what he's put out recently.
One track that is a definite contender for the top spot on our 2012 round up is Me for You - 78 Edits, check it out here: http://www.junodownload.com/products/full-house/2051833-02/?ref=discodeviant.
Keep an eye open for 78Edits in 2013 we are expecting big things! Here's a free extended version of Stephanie Mills 'Watcha Gonna Do With My Loving' from her album of the same name that 78 edits made for DJ sets. WINNER.

Great to see this new version of Erol Alkan’s extended rework of New Zealand based Connan Mockasin's “Forever Dolphin Love” getting a release. The song, taken from Connan’s 2011 album of the same name, is lovingly reworked here into a sprawling psychedelic groover.
The original rework has been around for some time but this version was included on Erol’s “Bugged Out” mix which was released over 2 CD's in September on !K7 Records. Both the Bugged Out mix and Connan's debut long player are well worth a listen.

John Talabot – ‘When The Past Was Present’ (Pachanga Boys Remixes)
Released back at the end of October, the Pachanga Boy's colour coded remixes of John Talabot's 'When The Past Was Present' have been firm favourites here since they landed.
Rebolledo and Superpitcher, aka Pachanga Boys, provide the heat with their familiarly slick production over three coloured remixes “designed for different phases of a night”. It's their Purple Remix that's a fave with us.
All three are now available digitally. The Purple Remix also sees a release as part of the limited edition version of John Talabot's 'Fin' long player which comes complete with a second CD of extra tracks and remixes.

Get your excuses in early... Yeah thanks Mum, gonna need to shoot off pretty early Boxing Day though ;)
C.O.R have been throwing legendary parties on Boxing Day along the South Coast in Southsea. Greg Wilson, Diesel, Graeme Park, Ashley Beedle & Alfredo have all joined the friendliest gang of disco reprobates you are ever likely to meet for some well organised debauches over the years. I'm a big fan and love their parties but have yet to make it along to a Boxing Day beano. This year it's gonna be different, plans are being made, excuses in early and a mid morning departure from the family should be pretty smooth.
No Turkey sandwiches for me, I'm off to a Vintage Holiday themed H.O.U.S.E party!
Tickets are available very shortly and the info you'll need is here FB EVENT
By the end of play we can see a few of the crowd rolling out some Party Chat for the remaining post - Christmas telly sessions...see below!

Amen Brother
Great debut release here from Dublin based label Amen
Brother.
Niall Kirk and Pete Cadden started throwing their Amen
Brother parties back in 2009. Focussing on psychedelic funk and soul sounds,
their parties have a solid reputation for quality and are loved by dance floor
darlings and beard strokers alike. “We’ll
throw some psychedelia, James Brown and Hendrix into the mix” says Niall
“People like to hear something a bit different”.
Their debut release features 3 lovingly created re-rubs by the
Amen Brother Disco Band. ‘Afreeka’ is a peak time percussive groover with hypnotic
vocals and a driving afro groove and ‘Gonna Get Some’ offers a more sleazy female
lead offering. ‘Rollin' & Sinkin’ is the gem here for me - a rework of ‘Painted
Ladies', an Ian Thomas track originally released in 1973, it’s been stuck in my
head since it arrived here in the week.
Available at the usual places on vinyl now.

Poolside Mix Tape
Cracking mix here from the Poolside Boys. This dropped on
soudcloud a few weeks back and it’s been on heavy rotation here since. A great
selection of down tempo sounds - definitely worth a listen on those
lazy, rainy days like it is here in Brighton today.
Poolside hail from LA and the duo’s album ‘Pacific Standard
Time’ was released back in July. It contains some beautiful instrumentation. Great percussion, dreamy keys, fantastic guitar work - a proper band album. Single
‘Do You Believe’ has been hammered all over the shop and THAT
cover version of Neil Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’ is a fantastic highlight.
The whole album is well worth a listen if you haven’t already. Some nice limited coloured vinyl available at Piccadilly Records too if you feel like treating yourself.

NYE Brighton with Rayko, Pablo Contraband & Ben Monk
Disco Deviant have had another great year throwing a handful of excellent parties in Brighton, Oslo, Groningen and London.
Disco Deviant's New Year's Eve party sees special guest
Rayko jet over from Madrid to continue his global boogie crusade
alongside chief orchestrator, Pablo Contraband and his close
collaborator and fellow music fiend Ben Monk.
This night is certainly an attractive proposition for the
more discerning party goer with a soft spot for quality Disco, House and
Boogie, without necessarily needing things to get too deep and
meaningful.
Fun is definitely high on the agenda with plenty of room
left for dancing. The venue has been chosen with comfort and aesthetics
in mind boasting panoramic sea views and stylish design.
Pablo is well known for ensuring that the music sounds
superb with clarity always a priority, therefore an excellent system
will be installed at the venue especially for the party.
All of this attention to detail and still the tickets are
limited to 200 and held at a reasonable rate bucking the trend of new
years eve's hyper inflated door prices and queues for everything.
Early Birds are just £7 &
Standard Advance tickets £10
Last years party was amazing and sold out well in advance so get in there

Weatherall next, beards at the ready. Nov 2 2012, The Loft, Brighton
We are happy to put on a series of parties at one of our favourite Brighton venues. Sound issues had prevented us using this friendly and intimate space, but these have since been resolved and after standing in the sweet spot we signed up for a couple of parties.
Andrew Weatherall (A Love from Outer Space) has been the focus if a longstanding love affair. One that we have no intention of relinquishing anytime soon, The Governor, The Major, The Chairman are all nicknames often bandied around when Andrew is
involved.
It's a pleasure to invite him to play at the venue where Disco Deviant was concieved. Resident DJ Pablo Contraband is once again bestowed the honour of getting things underway at what can surely only be a dream gig for him. (It's also his birthday so it's a double whammy really!)
Duncan Patterson has been dying to get on the decks at Disco Deviant and get the party started for a while now so after some gentle persuasion he's been added to the line up.
We are in a smaller venue by design and our hope is we sell out in advance meaning the crowd is made up of an audience there for all the right reasons. Capacity is only 180 so buying a ticket is advisable if you want to guarantee entry.
There are some limited Early beards available at £SOLD OUT! each so get in there!

NYE Disco Deviant, Brighton with Rayko
RAYKO continues on his global boogie crusade and will be starting 2013 off by treating us to a night of disco excess in his own infectious and unique style.
Rayko's been all over the world this year doing his thing as well as keeping busy in the studio and releasing a lot of vinyl and digital releases. We are big fans and couldn't think of a better guest to help us put on a proper party.
Pablo Contraband & Ben Monk will be representing for Disco Deviant and have already started to earmark tracks for thei
r NYE sets. Plenty of great tracks that have done the business over the years to choose from.
We would like to keep it fairly intimate with our friends all in attendance, the capacity is only 240 and from the success of last year we're hoping to sell out again.
This is a ticket only party so get involved and invite your friends along asap.
Early Bird tickets are £7 each

MermaidS
The first MermiadS EP is about to land shortly. I didn't know a great deal about it until it popped up on Piccadilly a few days ago. Hailing from Glasgow, MermaidS cite their influences as "anything from the most up to date house and techno, smoky old hip-hop or
the soundtracks to David Lynch movies. Whatever happens, it doesn't
work unless it's natural and from the heart".

Pablo Contraband - Roof top warm up mix
The Unity Agency Mix #35 - Pablo Contraband (08.2012) by The Unity Agency
New mix up - Warming things up nicely for the final secret rooftop party of the season. We're gonna be joined by Cosmic Boogie playing his final DJ set ever before hanging up his headphones, so I expect an excellent and emotional performance from him. Tickets are selling fast this week and there were less than 100 left this evening so don't hang about - £5 a pop here:
http://www.theransomnote.co.uk/ticket/secret-roof-party-pt3-w-cosmic-boogie-contraband-djs/466/
I recorded this last Saturday at The Waterhouse in Brighton, a rather swanky new cocktail bar and party space at the Hilton Metropole where I now hold a residency. It's pretty cool and is slowly gaining momentum. They install a nice little Mackie rig for Friday and Saturday nights and have an excellent music policy in place as well as exceptional taste evident in the interior design and the fact they are booking myself and Rich to play there regularly!
Hope you enjoy the dreamy selection of tracks in the mix.

Idjut Boys Album
Daniel
Tyler and Conrad McConnell, aka Idjut Boys, have been producing music under
various guises for 20 years. Only now have they taken the time to release a
long player of original music.
As
they advised Bill Brewster recently, “What we’ve tried to do is make an LP,
four tracks a side on vinyl. You stick it on your stereo, have a cup of coffee
and read the paper. When it’s finished you stick the other side on. So we’ve
made an LP in the traditional way.”
Cellar
Door is released on Smalltown Supersound. The Oslo based label was set up in
the late 1990’s focussing on jazz, rock and electronic sounds. The varied output
of Smalltown has seen releases from the likes of Todd Terje with his recent
‘It's The Arps’ EP through to the alternative rock sounds of Sonic Youth. With Supersound’s
eclectic output, it comes as no surprise that ‘Cellar Door’ isn’t the all out
late night discothèque pump that many followers may have been hoping for.
Drifting
by in 40 minutes, ‘Cellar Door’ highlights more of the duo’s song writing ability
than their clinical ability to move dancefloors. Opener ‘Rabass’ sees Andy Hopkins
(who has worked with the likes of Zero 7 and Groove Armada in the past) lay down
the lush and well produced guitars with gorgeous results, ‘The Way I Like It’
and Going Down’ show the Idjut’s more laid back, vocal side and ‘Love Hunter’ shimmers
with Balearic intent.
When
they do turn on beats, they do so with devastating effect with recent single ‘One
For Kenny’. Dedicated to UK house legend Kenny Hawkes who died suddenly
(and tragically early) just over a year ago, it’s piano break is a stunning lift
from the dark, hypnotic groove layed down from the outset. A proper record.
‘Cellar Door’ has received mixed reviews. I don’t see what
there isn’t to like here. The production is great as always and when played as
it should be, the LP has a certain flow to it that should be complimented given
the array of styles they touch on. Make
yourself a brew, pick up the paper and put it on the hi fi. You’ll probably
find yourself doing it again.
While
we’re mentioning Kenny Hawkes, the revised design for the Kenny Hawkes memorial
'25 Years of London House' t-shirt is complete and will be available to buy
soon. The proceeds will go some way to helping to pay for a Kenny memorial that
friends and fans are helping to raise money for. Based on the 'London House
Tree' map of house club history, which was drawn by Miles Simpson for Faith Fanzine in 2008, it’s
been updated it to ensure it includes more recent developments in house music. It’s a great visual account of London club culture over the years. The
t-shirts will be available soon so we’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear anything.
