DD12 – Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco Edits

For Number 12 in the Disco Deviance series, Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco cut, paste and rework two cracking disco trax into hot new versions which are ready to rip up the dance floor.

Both DJ editors have already delivered top releases on Disco Deviance, Pete with the wonderful ‘Don’t Let Go/Ivan’ package and Dicky more recently with his hot ‘Come To Me/Rip It Dub’ combination.

This time around they kick things off with the discotastic, proto-house vibes of Sharon Brown’s classic ‘I Specialize in Love’. Dubbing out the original to the max, they rework it into a more stripped down, dancefloor-orientated version called ‘Doctor Love’, which holds back and works the floor more until finally letting loose with that joyful vocal.

Meanwhile on the flip, it’s the strong grooves of Deborah Washington’s ‘Rock It’ which get heavily spliced, enhanced and overdubbed to produce a totally new take on this wicked cut called ‘Disco Rocket’.

Both tracks are respectfully edited, lovingly re-mastered and cut at 45 RPM for maximum dance floor pleasure and DJ delight.

Greg Wilson footage @ Loft - Brighton

We were lucky enough to be at a superb night in Brighton on Friday, Danny + Pablo did a fine job warming up, before Greg Wilson came on and took us to new heights. The atmosphere was electric. Highlights included Chic - I want your love (terje edit), DD - Don't let go (pete herbert edit), Atlantic Conveyor - We are, and a sublime mix of Yazoo - Situation (dub) into Voodoo Ray. Utter brilliance.

The Pablo + Danny are back on April 9th (Easter Thursday) @ Jazz Place with Soft Rocks as guests. Should be worth checking out. More Info

A couple of Sunday tracks for you - Are they Balearic..?

The weathers taken a turn for the worst here with cold, rain and winds, giving us plenty of reasons to just stay indoors.

The 2 gigs I played this weekend were fairly quiet compared to previous weekends, which was disappointing - it was payday this week for most people but the streets were fairly quiet all the same.

Anyhow, I went on to a friends birthday at a balearic night that has switched venues recently, Trevor Fung was booked to play an Italo/Balearic set, 2 wooly genres in my experience... normally it means old records when people mention balearic/italo.

I arrived and within 25 minutes I had heard the most obvious of choices played in fairly rapid succession, Stretch's - Why did you do it? (albeit it a remix) - My Bloody Valentine - Glider (Weatheralls mix).... yawn... oh and just to show I wasn't unlucky the piano intro from Bocca Juniors' - Raise soon followed, the best of the bunch so far.

I was feeling that this nostalgia was forced, thrust at me, with no real thought or imagination...

I didn't stick around for Trevor Fungs set, but I wonder if he freshened things up at all... I would of stayed to find out, but aa unforgivably dodgy track meant I had to leave...

Love is Contagious .... possibly by Nina?? Dear me... TAXI!!

I love music enough to listen to all sorts and I understand balearic, but if we're gonna have a renaissance of this genre, whats wrong with mixing it up a bit, instead of constantly sweeping out the Shoom cupboard..
